DARRAGH MCCARTHY
FOUNDER & CEO
Darragh McCarthy is the CEO and Founder of FinTrU. He started his career at Morgan Stanley in 1994 and remained there until late 2012. During his time at Morgan Stanley, Darragh was based in London, Frankfurt and New York and held various responsibilities including Global COO for Institutional Securities, COO for EMEA, Head of Fixed Income Sales North America and Head of Fixed Income Sales EMEA.
In 2013 Darragh founded FinTrU recognising the increasing demand from Global Investment Banks for high-quality resources to navigate the ever-increasing regulatory landscape. Whilst managed as a profit-driven organisation, Darragh also considers FinTrU as having a social purpose to create high-quality professional employment on the island of Ireland.
Darragh has a First Class Honours BComm International from University College of Dublin, Ireland. He has been nominated for EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2018. Darragh speaks fluent German and Dutch.

FinTrU Women in Finance Scholarship
As an organisation, FinTrU values diversity across all levels of the business and pledges to achieve greater gender balance in the workplace. We are passionate about giving talent the support they require to overcome any barriers in order to work with clients on the global stage.

At FinTrU, we recognise that women are underrepresented in the Finance industry at all levels. This underrepresentation is also evident from the cohorts at universities in Northern Ireland undertaking finance-related courses. To support our pledge and to promote gender diversity in the workplace, we are offering a unique opportunity to undertake practical work experience, receive one-on-one mentorship and access financial support allowing you to supercharge your personal development and kickstart your future career within Financial Services.
Our Women in Finance Committee is delighted to offer this training and mentoring Scholarship to one female Finance student from Queen’s University Belfast and one from Ulster University.
Successful students will receive:
One on one mentorship from a member of FinTrU’s Women in Finance Committee throughout your academic career;
A range of chances to network with and learn from our Women in Finance Committee;
An opportunity to complete your industrial placement year at FinTrU; and
50% contribution towards your year two and year four university fees.
Who are we looking for?
A passionate first year student studying Finance (or closely related discipline) who is motivated to build a career in Financial Services.
You should be able to demonstrate strong academics and be comfortable acting as an authentic and vocal ambassador for FinTrU.
How do I apply?
In order to apply you will need to submit the following:

A copy of your CV, along with a cover letter detailing your interest in the FinTrU scholarship

An essay of no more than 1000 words addressing the following question:
"How do we, as a society, ensure the fair representation of women in careers in the Finance Services sector?"

A 60 second video simply telling us what makes you the best candidate for a FinTrU Scholarship – uploaded to WeTransfer.com

FinTrU has agreed to offer two Women in Finance scholarships commencing from the start of 2021/22 academic term. FinTrU reserves the right to withdraw one or both scholarships if FinTrU are not satisfied that the required selection criteria have been met. The selection panel will comprise of members of the FinTrU management team. Applicants need to be a resident in the UK.
Once selected as a FinTrU Women in Finance Scholar, eligibility for all aspects of the award is subject to passing all modules at the first attempt during their academic career. FinTrU reserves the right to terminate the scholarship if the Scholar does not pass all modules at the first attempt during their scholarship. Extenuating circumstances will be taken into consideration before a final decision is made.
Scholarship payments to the Scholar’s university from FinTrU on behalf of the Scholar would cease if the Scholar failed to pass their exams or decided to leave/change their course of study. Payments will be equivalent to 50% of Northern Ireland students’ course fees.
