FinTrU CEO, Darragh McCarthy, delivers keynote speech on the outlook for financial services in Northern Ireland

On Wednesday 10 January, FinTrU CEO Darragh McCarthy, delivered his keynote speech at the QUB Management School Student Finance Conference.

Below is a summary of some of the areas covered in the speech. As well as discussing his own experience, Darragh presented his analysis on how the QUB students can be prepared for the industry following their graduation.


Darragh focused heavily on Northern Ireland's value proposition in the financial services industry with particular emphasis on the following areas. 


People: High quality, professionally trained, English speaking financial and legal 
services professionals with a strong work ethic and high productivity level.

Partnership: Strong relationships between business, government and education 
sectors as well as an ability to develop bespoke business skills via the
. Invest NI offers generous subsidies for pre-employment academies and 
support for ongoing skills development.

Proximity: Operates within UK Legal & Regulatory framework, 1 hour from London. Based in Belfast with an office in London. FinTrU delivers global services from the UK. 

Price: Optimised, flexible medium / long term resourcing solution, with no upfront cost to the client. Operating costs up to 50% of London/NY for delivery of high value add services.

Darragh's advice to the students included to be optimistic in looking for solutions for any potential setbacks, to have self belief in their own capabilities and the increasing importance of relevant experience. Students should try and seize any opportunity they can to build up industry experience in order to be the most prepared they can be for their future careers.
