#MeetFinTrU:
Conor Gribben
KYC ASSOCIATE
Belfast OFFICE
Conor joined FinTrU as a KYC
Associate in April 2021
What was your background prior to joining FinTrU?
I graduated from Ulster University in July 2018 and joined a large financial services company. I worked for them in the financial crime department for two years and 10 months.
The majority of my experience here, with exception to a six-week secondment in Bristol, was in Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC). Initially, I worked as an AML analyst. This role involved completing customer due diligence reviews on a range of entity types and risk levels. I then progressed to a quality control role, this involved reviewing analysts' cases and ensuring they were compliant with the bank’s AML policies and procedures. This role also involved coaching analysts and new QCs on the project.
How has FinTrU supported you during your career development?
During my first week in the role I was provided with an array of training materials. This allowed me to get a better understanding of investment banking as previously I had mainly worked for retail banks. FinTrU also offers the opportunity to undertake professional qualifications which shows its commitment to developing employees within the organisation.

Why would you recommend a career at FinTrU?
FinTrU is a hungry and growing company. This means there will be opportunities for progression as the company continues to scale up. In the KYC space in Northern Ireland companies often pay below the industry standard and FinTrU are paying competitive wages, this shows they don’t undervalue their workforce.
Another reason to join FinTrU is you will be working for an ambitious leader in Darragh McCarthy. His vision for the future is exciting and FinTrU has recently set up a new offices in New York and Maastricht therefore, international travel may be an option in the future.
