#MeetFinTrU: Sophia Butler shares her story of joining FinTrU while working from home
As part of our #MeetFinTrU feature, we are sharing stories of our employees who have joined FinTrU during this unprecedented time. Sophia shares her experience of being welcomed to a new company and the initiatives put in place to make her feel connected with his colleagues.
What is your role at FinTrU?
I am a Senior Associate working with a Tier 1 Investment Bank on a KYC project.
Why did you decide to join FinTrU?
I had always heard really positive feedback from friends and former colleagues who had joined FinTrU. What appealed to me most was the community atmosphere and the chance to get involved with the whole company rather than being just another number! FinTrU has a very strong reputation within Belfast and the correct opportunity arose for me!

What was your background before joining FinTrU?
I have always worked for Financial Institutions within their Compliance Departments. I previously worked within Trade Surveillance focusing on Ecomm Surveillance, Personal Account Trading and Directorships. I also have experience in Product Compliance Monitoring working directly with the Prime Finance Trading teams and looking after the CASS aspects of Equity Trading for EMEA.
How was the process of joining FinTrU during the current working from home situation?
It was very strange starting a new job from the comfort of my own home – everyone has been great with everything I would need. FinTrU provided any hardware equipment I needed and supported me by answering any questions I had prior to joining It has actually been really good with regards to training and the whole induction process. Utilising video calls has been the cornerstone for getting everything up and running.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering joining FinTrU?
Just be yourself (cheesy I know!) and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Everyone is here to help you out and have done everything they can in the current circumstances to make this an enjoyable experience so far.
