Thomas Hanna - Associate Full Stack Engineer

Course Title: Certified Kubernetes Application Developer

Date: July 2022

WHAT DID YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THE COURSE?

The course is self-directed, allowing me to progress through the content and to digest the material at my own pace. The content is focused on covering core tools and case studies. These explore encounters with the technology and dives into the detail of how particular aspects of it work when appropriate.

The theory is mixed well with practical application, so it is not just reading and memorising existing documentation. The focus is on developing understanding.

HOW DO YOU THINK THIS WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR CAREER?

Being up to date with new developments is always important within the tech space. This could be making use of them whilst implementing solutions, taking advantage of them to provide the best solution for a particular product, or even being able to work on an existing product effectively.

The technology itself is ever increasing in popularity with trends moving towards to microservice architectures. Kubernetes is a common tool within this space and developing a foundation with it aligns with FinTrU’s push towards making use of these approaches for ongoing and future projects. Having formal training allows me to be more involved with that transition, contributing more to the resulting outcomes and assisting other members of the team.

HOW DID FINTRU HELP IN THE PROCESS?

From the start FinTrU has openly encouraged everyone to make use of training opportunities available to progress themselves. When applying for the course, the process was simple and approved in a matter of days with the materials being accessible shortly after.

WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TAKING ON ADDITIONAL LEARNING/TRAINING?

At first, I was reluctant to take on the additional training as it was a dedication of time to work through the course material. However, once you start progressing and applying what you are learning in your day-to-day, the value of that investment of time really starts becoming apparent. This encourages you to push towards its completion and considering taking on more.
