DARRAGH MCCARTHY
FOUNDER & CEO
Darragh McCarthy is the CEO and Founder of FinTrU. He started his career at Morgan Stanley in 1994 and remained there until late 2012. During his time at Morgan Stanley, Darragh was based in London, Frankfurt and New York and held various responsibilities including Global COO for Institutional Securities, COO for EMEA, Head of Fixed Income Sales North America and Head of Fixed Income Sales EMEA.
In 2013 Darragh founded FinTrU recognising the increasing demand from Global Investment Banks for high-quality resources to navigate the ever-increasing regulatory landscape. Whilst managed as a profit-driven organisation, Darragh also considers FinTrU as having a social purpose to create high-quality professional employment on the island of Ireland.
Darragh has a First Class Honours BComm International from University College of Dublin, Ireland. He has been nominated for EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2018. Darragh speaks fluent German and Dutch.

Course Title: ICA Certificate in KYC and CDD

WHY DID YOU SIGN UP FOR THE ICA COURSE?
I decided to sign up for the ICA course after doing some research on the course content and discussing with my line manager. Since joining FinTrU, I have gained great experience and knowledge on the job but I really wanted to develop my understanding further. The ICA Certificate in KYC and CDD allowed me to do this as it discusses frameworks and the practical elements of working within a KYC environment.
HOW DID YOU FIND IT?
What I enjoyed most was the way in which the course was delivered. The learning module is very interactive with knowledge testing questions at the end. There is also a PDF booklet which you can download and I found this very helpful. My learning style is a 'doing' one so I spent a lot of my time linking key concepts and knowledge to the work I do on project and found this was most helpful for me.
HOW WILL THIS LEARNING HELP YOU?
I have recently become an SME on my project and so I feel it is important that I continue to build on my knowledge and continue my professional development. This certificate is a stepping stone and provides a strong foundation in the risk-based approach to CDD, key concepts, as well as core KYC frameworks. Understanding this enables me to give back to my team by coaching and developing new joiners and ensuring that I contribute to our projects consistent quality scores and client satisfaction.
HOW DID FINTRU SUPPORT YOU?
FinTrU has been a great support! In my monthly 1-2-1 I had indicated my desire to continue my professional development and had discussed with my manager ways in which I could do this. The ICA course came up in conversation and after talking through the course content we agreed that it would be a great opportunity for me. As the course was so relevant to my daily work I was able to ask my team and managers questions around the topics being revised and my manager allowed me time throughout the week to do some revision and sit the exam. At FinTrU I can really drive my own learning and development. Both the company and my manager are always more than happy to support me in whatever way they can! FinTrU even covered the cost of the exam and learning materials, for which I am grateful.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THE COURSE TO OTHERS?
I would absolutely recommend this course. It really gives you a strong foundation of knowledge in the area of KYC. It’s also worth noting that you can study in your own time at your own pace and ICA will allow access to the course content for up to three months. The qualification is awarded in association with Alliance Manchester Business School so the work you put in is recognised. I feel this course will set me up for advanced certificates and qualifications when I progress to Associate this year.
