Double Champions – FinTrU win Men’s and Ladies Ulster GAA Inter Firm titles
TUESDAY 20 NOVEMBER 2018
The past two weekends have proven to be successful on the sporting field for FinTrU with two cups brought back to FinTrU House.
On Saturday 10 November, the FinTrU Ladies GAA team sealed the title by winning five games out of five at the Tyrone GAA Centre of Excellence to kick off of a successful week for FinTrU. Captain, Stacey McCann, was presented with the trophy after an exciting 3-6 to 0-7 win over South West College in the final. FinTrU’s Anna Kelly also picked up the Player of the Tournament Award.
At the same venue on Saturday past, it was the FinTrU Men’s GAA team’s turn as they took part in the Ulster GAA Junior Inter Firms competition. Following a win against Randox (1) and defeat against South West College, the final game against Citi decided who would top the group.
FinTrU produced a three point win and would go on to face Randox (2) in the quarter final, followed by another meeting with Citi. The semi final proved to be a nervous affair with both teams attempting to deal with the strong winds on the day, but FinTrU repeated their earlier victory against Citi with a two point win to set up a final against Belfast Solicitors GAA.
FinTrU sealed the title after a comfortable victory in the final, with the Solicitors having come through a tough victory after extra time against South West College not long before. It was an enjoyable day with everyone playing a major role in bringing home the title. A special mention for FinTrU’s goalkeeper, Patrick Rice, who produced great performances on the day and was unfazed by the conditions with his kick outs.
